A WEEK'S rest and three home games in a row has the Ipswich Jets in a strong position to relaunch their Intrust Super Cup premiership defence.

Injuries have derailed the Jets season in 2016, with the in-form Josh Seage the latest casualty for the rugby league outfit.

Despite the player losses, the Jets have been bolstered by the return of premiership forward Sam Martin, who has played just four games in the green and white this year.

With 110 appearances for the Jets, Martin said he couldn't wait to return to North Ipswich Reserve against the Burleigh Bears this weekend.

"I'm getting excited," the 27-year-old said.

"I'm so keen to get back out there with the boys. It is hard (to have an injury) when you want to get into a routine.

"But when you get knocked back you just keep training and try to stay fit."

After a calf injury ruled him out at the start of the season, a broken wrist sidelined Martin for a further four weeks.

With the third-placed Bears the next tough assignment for the Jets, his return couldn't have come at a better time for Ipswich co-coaches Ben and Shane Walker.

"At the moment it feels good," Martin said.

"I tried to keep fit with jogging and some leg weights but I'm slowly getting back on the paddock this week.

"I've just gotten back on the weights now so we'll see how it goes. …
