UILDING their own dream home had always been Marisa and Keith Dixon's ambition.

BAnd discovering the perfect leafy plot on which to build it was the icing on the cake. The couple built Maple Lodge in the heart of Hepscott village, Morpeth, in 2008. Marisa said: "The vision was to create a family home and it's something that Keith has always wanted to do.

"It was the plot that really attracted us. It's in a wooded setting and the wildlife is stunning. We get regular visits from red squirrels, owls and pheasants."

"It's lovely and light and bright, and has a lovely aspect into the garden. Although I wanted a traditional house, I wanted a lot of light so there are lots of windows throughout."

The garden room, in the shape of a gin gan, is another popular space. It is a multi functional room and provides stunning garden views. But the cinema room is the firm favourite with the couple's children Adrian, 32, Andrew, 30, and Steph, 23, when they visit from London. …
