LUKE Carr admits Morpeth Town were "star-struck" on their first trip to Wembley - but Hereford soon shook them out of it.

The Highwaymen became the seventh Northern League team in eight years to win the FA Vase on Sunday with a 4-1 win over the highly-fancied Bulls.

Carr admits his side initially froze on the big occasion, conceding to former Darlington midfielder Rob Purdie in the first 75 seconds and watching Sirdic Grant hit the bar in an opening half-hour Hereford totally dominated.

Captain Keith Graydon, man-ofthe-match Chris Swailes and Michael Chilton were the only players on either side to have appeared in the showpiece

before but Morpeth's nonplaying squad members Lee McAndrew and Chris Reid had also picked up winners' medals with their previous clubs.

None, though, had experienced an occasion like Sunday's. This was the first time the FA had combined the Vase and Trophy games into one "Non-League Finals Day" but supporter-owned phoenix club Hereford lifted the volume on their own with more than 19,000 fans to Morpeth's 4,000 or so. …
