Pensioner's Swindled in Cold Call Con

ACONMAN fleeced a frail pensioner out of hundreds of pounds for maintenance work he did not do.

The fraudster visited the 79-year-old woman's home in Cramlington and offered to paint her fence.

He later returned to her property asking for payment and she gave him PS300, but the man had not carried out the work.

The incident happened sometime between 10am and 4pm on May 12.

The suspect is described as being white, aged between 40 and 50, of medium build and has brown hair.

He spoke with a local accent and was wearing a brown suit with a shirt.

Northumbria Police is urging people not to give their money to cold callers.

The appeal is part of Operation Strongbow - a North East-wide crackdown on doorstep criminals.

Cramlington neighbourhood inspector Pam Bridges said: "Callers who turnup unannounced, claiming to be carrying out work or selling something, should be treated with caution. …
