Young Talent to Perform on Banks of Tyne; CLASSICAL Who Could Resist a Spot of Mozart or Puccini for a Good Cause - Especially When Performed in a Beautiful Garden beside the River Tyne?

You reap what you sow, as the old adage goes. A perfect example is the gala concert organised by Samling, the music charity which is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

With its special masterclass weeks in the North East, Samling has helped to polish the raw talent of some of the country's best young singers.

Those singers and piano accompanists who have benefited from the close attention of some of the most revered names in music are forever dubbed Samling Artists.

Their number grows as the years pass and many of them, once established, are keen to come back to Samling to help with the good work.

Four Samling Artists whose careers have taken off will be performing at Gala Concert in the Garden, a very special anniversary fundraiser featuring the music of Mozart, Rossini and Puccini.

The event is taking place in the garden of The Old Vicarage in Bywell, Northumberland, which is home to Samling trustee Tony Trapp, executive chairman of offshore engineering firm Osbit.

Samling has never staged an event like this but it promises much with its beautiful setting and fine young musical line-up.

Director of Samling Karon Wright says: "With music such as 'Largo al factotum' from Rossini's The Barber of Seville, 'O soave fanciulla' from Puccini's La boheme and Bizet's Pearl Fishers duet, our audience can expect an unforgettable evening."

And in answer to the obvious question, she adds that the "finest marquees" will protect music lovers from any weather that might otherwise mar the occasion.

There are two types of ticket. For PS30 you can attend the concert and enjoy a welcoming glass of something; for PS95 you can first enjoy "a sparkling reception with canapes" followed by dinner in the main marquee served up by catering specialists Bakerwood.
