FOUR Prehistoric-looking baby birds have hatched at a Teesside owl centre.

Visitors would have been fooled into thinking Kirkleatham Owl Centre in Redcar had transformed into Jurassic Park over the past few weeks as it brought three Baby Blue Winged Kookaburras and one Laughing Kookaburra into the world.

The birds, which are native to Australia, were far from the cute little chicks that one would normally expect.

A spokesperson for the centre said: "It has to be said, the babies, who are only just starting to get their feathers, are not exactly cute - they look like a cross between a pterodactyl and a velociraptor.

"There are a number of different types of Kookaburra and here at the owl centre we keep two, the Laughing from Australia and the Blue Wing from Northern Australia and New Guinea.

"We are really pleased to have four babies, especially the Blue Wings, as we have only ever reared one before. …
