Coast Braces for Heavy Rain and Strong Winds

RESIDENTS and visitors to the Fraser Coast are being urged to prepare for heavy rain and possible flash-flooding this Saturday.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Lauren Pattie said there was an upper low moving across the east that should reach the coast by Saturday.

"Expect heavy rain in the southern parts of Queensland, including the Fraser Coast region," she said.

The Fraser Coast is expected to see 70-100 millimetres of rainfall on Saturday with a king tide in Hervey Bay around 9.30pm on Saturday.

Wind speeds are predicted to reach 40 knots on Saturday and seas reaching highs of 3.5 metres.

"Anyone out on the water over the weekend, needs to take extra care with the high swells," Lauren Pattie said.

Fraser Coast SES controller Robert Biram, said people shouldn't panic.

"Our teams can get to people pretty quickly, so people don't need to panic," he said.

"The main areas that usually get hit are along the Esplanade and Dundowran, so residents in those particular areas need to ensure their yards are tidied. …
