THE future of female football on the Fraser Coast is looking bright if Friday night's "Bend it like Becky" gala is anything on which to judge.

Organisers, which included former Matilda goalkeeper Belinda Kitching and United Warrior Sarah Walker, spent much of the week prior to the even doing all they could to ensure the message was out.

While the United Warriors coach walked the sideline during the side's win over Hervey Bay on May 21, Kitching said she had handed out about 200 flyers, while the same note appeared on Facebook throughout the week.

When Kitching arrived at Hervey Bay Sports Club on Friday she was hopeful but did not expect a huge number of people to show up.

"It was wonderful. We had about 85 people there," Kitching said. "I think it was a bit of a surprise but they all enjoyed it."

Brisbane Roar W-League player Ayesha Norrie was one of the guests as the female-only gala night sought to introduce young girls to the sport.

Six players were invited for a one-on-one challenge against Norrie, before they went to the spot for a penalty shootout against Kitching. …
