THE Rio Olympic dream for Bundaberg's Thomas Edgar, the Australian captain, is over after the Volleyroos failed to qualify for the event.

Needing to win their final match against group leaders Poland to qualify, the Volleyroos fell short as they were defeated in straight sets.

Despite being outclassed by their European rivals, the Aussies had chances to push the game further.

Leads in the first and third set could not be maintained as the side struggled with fatigue in their final match after a gruelling campaign.

Unfortunately for the Volleyroos, their tournament came unstuck at the start, with three losses in their first four games.

One loss, a five-set thriller against Canada, looks to be the decisive game that hurt the Roos dearly.

Talking after the loss Edgar told the official Volleyball Federation website he was shattered to miss out on the games after competing in London. …
