STRONG nominations for Ipswich Cup Day were received yesterday, as a total of 148 rolled in.

Despite this number, nominations for the Ipswich Cup were extended until this morning after the full field of numbers was not reached.

Decent quality in the Ipswich Cup includes three Irish imports (Beyond Thankful, Instrumentalist and Caillebotte), two English imports (Dance of Heroes and Maurus) and a dual Group 1 winner in New Zealander Puccini. This galloper is trained by last year's Melbourne Cup winning trainer Darren Weir.

The Cup is a race dominated by southern trained stayers and Jumbo Prince looks to be the strongest of the local contingent.

Chris Waller is looking to add to his initial Ipswich Cup success from Danchai last year with two imported gallopers nominated in Beyond Thankful and Dance of Heroes.

In the Gai Waterhouse fillies and mares race, Darren Weir's 2015 Maybe Mahal winner Scarlet Billows is nominated along with Echo Gal, which is trained by Gai Waterhouse. She is trying to win the race named after her.

In the Eyeliner Stakes, the well performed NSW galloper and Group 2 winner Ninth Legion is nominated along with the Victorian Group 1 placegetter Odyssey Moon. …
