AUSSIE RULES: Helping more girls play AFL is the aim of North Coast AFL this Sunday with their third gala day for girls interested in playing the sport.

AFL development officer for the North Coast Matt Crawley said their aim was to try and involve as many youth girls as possible in the sport to help foster a competition on the North Coast next year.

"Its giving them that great opportunity to come and have that game," Crawley said.

"We had 22 girls turn up at South Kempsey and we has 15 girls turn up at Macksville.

"But probably what was the most encouraging thing, there were 5 girls who came to the second one... they'd never played before, that was the most encouraging for us."

On Sunday, from 1.30pm at Ellem Oval in Grafton, the third day will kick off with support available for girls trying AFL for the first

time. …
