ENTICING spectators to also include Bundaberg during their Sunshine State visit and feeding athletes produce from the region's red dirt are some of the potential opportunities Bundaberg could capitalise on from the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Bundy-born and bred Anita Palm, who represented Australia in beach volleyball at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, was back home to talk at yesterday's Chamber of Commerce breakfast about such opportunities, and her role as the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation's head of sport.

"I had the chance to talk about the Commonwealth Games - how exciting it is - and get people enthused and also understand the connections for the Bundaberg business community and the potential opportunities they have to leverage off the Games," Ms Palm said.

"There's a wide variety (of opportunities), particularly in some of the procurement areas and the government have set up a separate entity called Embracing2018. …
