Rehab Saves Ice User from Jail

SELF rehabilitation had gone a long way to keeping former ice addict Travis Jon Saxby out of jail when he appeared before Toowoomba Supreme Court.

The 29-year-old was a passenger in a car pulled over by police in Toowoomba on September 13, 2014, Crown prosecutor Shontelle Petrie told the court.

With Saxby looking nervous, shaking and sweating, police became suspicious and searched Saxby and the vehicle.

Ms Petrie said police found a backpack which contained 145 MDMA (ecstasy) tablets with a weight of 38.15g and a purity of 19.3% or 7.364g and 6.519g of methylamphetamine of which 4.083g was pure drug.

Saxby pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing a dangerous drug above 2g.

His barrister Isaac Munsie told the court his client had turned his life around since the arrest and no longer used drugs.

"He is a very different man to the one he was in 2014," Mr Munsie submitted. …
