Rainfall a Godsend for the Region's Farmers

SOLID weekend rain has put a spring in the step of many producers across the Gympie region.

Livestock agent Dan Sullivan said the rain would help put farmers in a stronger position through the year.

"Certainly it'll be a good start, that's for sure, particularly coming out of winter into spring," he said.

He said farmers wouldn't usually expect such a deluge this time of year.

"We don't normally get winter rain, that's for sure," he said. "While it's been so dry, they'll take any moisture at the moment."

He said this year's rain had been great for morale in the local industry.

"There's a change in people's attitudes, not just this rainfall event but for the past six months."

As predicted, the Gympie region got a bucketing-down on Sunday afternoon, with Gympie receiving 79mm in less than 24 hours as heavy rain drenched central and southern Queensland and flooded roads to the south as the major weather system barrelled south and intensified over New South Wales. …
