Angry Morgan Will Go Back to Basics despite Dramatic Final-Ball Tie

ENGLAND could make changes for Friday's one-day international against Sri Lanka at Edgbaston despite a thrilling tie in the opener.

Captain Eoin Morgan was angry with last night's display at Trent Bridge, which ended with Liam Plunkett smashing a six from the final delivery to achieve a tie.

Morgan will not let the excitement of a last-ball finish cloud his opinions about his team's performance. "We have to go back to basics, focus on the things we do well and take that to Edgbaston on Friday," he told the BBC.

"Trent Bridge was almost so bad that we can't look too hard at it."

Morgan and coach Trevor Bayliss sprung a surprise by leaving out Steven Finn, often the leader of the bowling attack in white-ball cricket, and Chris Jordan to accommodate spinners Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali.

If England pick an extra seamer on Friday, Moeen looks more vulnerable than Rashid as the leg-spinner bowled with skill and discipline to concede just 36 runs from his 10 overs. …
