Soho Comes to Life in Circus Show; Rock 'N' Roll Set Builder Recreates District's Heyday

THE team that delivered stage sets for Madonna, U2 and AC/DC has launched a modern circus to celebrate the "weirdness and sexiness" of Soho and sound an alert over the loss of the district's unique identity.

The show, entitled Soho, features daring stunts and cabaret on an impressive set by rock 'n' roll entertainment company Stufish to recreate the area. Directed by Abigail Yeates, it follows a man who gets lost exploring Berwick Street, Chinatown, Soho Square and cabaret club Madame JoJo's which closed in 2014 despite protests. Chris Hynes, creative producer for Stufish, said: "The performance is about life. It's a celebration of the diversity and madness of Soho we have to preserve.

"We don't want it to lose its identity and become sterile with luxury flats and offices. We want to capture the Soho that still had its vibrancy and mix of life and was a creative melting pot where you could run into artists like Francis Bacon or Derek Jarman in the pub. …
