A MAN whose efforts were essential to the rejection of the Traveston Crossing dam, Andrew Bartlett, returned to Gympie this week for the federal election campaign.

The former Australian Democrats senator is standing for the Greens, in the hope of winning the party a second Senate seat.

The party's Number One candidate, Larissa Waters, was also active in the anti-dam campaign.

Sen Bartlett was instrumental in putting through the law which enabled then Environment Minister Peter Garrett to block the dam at federal level.

He joined pre-poll voters at the Gympie Senior Citizens Centre, with the party's Wide Bay electorate candidate Bronwyn Marsh.

A former soldier, Ms Marsh is an active campaigner against coal and coal seam gas mining and a rural fire brigade volunteer.

She is concerned about the mental health issues facing returned service personnel and farmers.
