THERE were mixed fortunes at the top and bottom of the league, with the weather interfering again.

Annfield Plain moved out of the bottom two at last with a sevenwicket win at home to bottom placed Benwell and Walbottle in their 'six-pointer.'.

With a delayed start reducing the match to 40 overs a side, Benwell decided to bat after winning the toss and lost wickets regularly due to some fine bowling from Plain's Michael Hawdon (2-6), Liam Maddison (2-26) and Daniel Keegan (2-14). However, Stephen Reed made 34 not out to help steer them to a modest total of 101 all out.

Club spokesman Lee Maddison said: "We knew a win was vital on Saturday.

"We had a few regulars out and with Leadgate not finishing against Ponteland, it was a very welcome 20 points for us. Our club was buzzing afterwards!" Opener Lewis Donnelly contributed a solid and quick innings of 41, with five fours and two sixes off just 21 balls, allowing Plain to win in just 12.2 overs. …
