A DESPERATE family is appealing for help to bring their dying loved one home from Thailand.

Kathryn Williamson, from North Shields, has spent almost six weeks on life support in a Bangkok hospital after collapsing while on holiday.

Her family on Tyneside believe the 51-year-old has no chance of pulling through, and that the machinery keeping her alive should be switched off.

Kathryn's sister Elizabeth Phillips said the Thai medics' decision to keep her sibling alive, due to their customs and beliefs, has led to huge medical bills.

The family have been told they must pay around PS36,000 if they want to bring Kathryn home to pass away with her loved ones around her.

Elizabeth has now set up an online fund-raising page in the hope that people will donate to help. The 58-year-old said: "You can't imagine how we are feeling.

"The truth is I think she's gone and they are just keeping her alive, and all the while the bills are unbelievable, they just keep mounting up.

"We just want to bring her back home. It would mean a lot if we could be with her. Without these funds she will not be returned home to us and will be moved to a hospice without medical support, resulting in her dying alone. Any donation no matter how small would be greatly appreciated."

Kathryn grew up in North Shields with her four siblings Elizabeth, William, Tracey and Derek, who has since passed away.

Their father George Williamson was well known around the Meadow Well estate as leader of the Collingwood Youth Club in Waterville Road.

Former Norham High School pupil Kathryn was enjoying a holiday with her partner on May 17 when she suddenly collapsed.

It's torture she's there. know happening. helpless Elizabeth "Kathryn had been ill for a long time and suffers from arthritis," Elizabeth explained. …
