That's Your Lot! Famous Auction House to Hold Final Sale Today

ALMOST a century of selling in a Tyneside town centre will come to an end today for an auction house.

Featonby's will hold its final sale at its Park View premises in Whitley Bay, where it has served generations of buyers and sellers.

Owner Gill Featonby has sold the building and the auction business.

Under new ownership, the auction house will transfer to an empty former furniture store in Little Bedford Street in North Shields. Thursday's sale will be the last of thousands held over the years in Whitley Bay, where the auction business has been a fixture for so long.

Gill Featonby's husband, David, who was the third generation of his family to run the business, died four years ago.

She said: "I am sad to lose it but I decided to sell because of health and age reasons."

Senior auctioneer and valuer Darren Riach has worked for Featonby's for 30 years, following in the footsteps of his father Angus, while his grandfather worked for auctioneers Sutherlands in Newcastle. …
