Defending the Home Turf; Grafton 1 and 2 Ready for State Champs Onslaught

HOCKEY: Hundreds of Under 13s boys from across the state are set to descend on the Clarence Valley Regional Hockey Complex this weekend.

And there will be two Grafton sides ready to meet them at the gate.

The new look Grafton 1 side will contest the highly competitive Division 1 with teams from Newcastle, Sydney and Tamworth while Grafton 2 will play in Division 2 after gaining promotion at last year's championships.

Grafton 1 coach Darryl Clark said his side are in good shape, and are determined to give the other teams a strong fight on their home turf.

"We are tracking along well," he said. "We have got a team with a mix of experienced player and younger players.

"It will be interesting to see how the younger players go in a hotly contested Division 1."

The side has had a few injury setbacks, with Tyler Gaddes ruled out of the weekend's action with a broken arm.

With hundreds of hockey players about to land on our doorstep, Clark believes hosting the tournament is a fantastic achievement for the Grafton Hockey Association and the Clarence Valley in general. …
