YOUNGSTERS can pull on their trainers for a new parkrun which will be just for children.

The new weekly junior parkrun will be held at Hemlington Lake, Hemlington, from next month.

It will take place at 9am on Sundays and will be available free to youngsters aged four to 14.

The event builds on the success of two existing parkruns - open to both adults and children - held at Stewart Park and Albert Park.

The kids' run will be 2km, as opposed to the adults' 5km.

Middlesbrough Council has allocated PS3,000 from its public health budget to fund the event.

A council spokesman said: "Middlesbrough already hosts two very popular parkruns at Albert Park and Stewart Park which are well attended by people of all ages and all running abilities.

"The Hemlington Junior Park Run aims to be a fun way of promoting a healthy and active lifestyle from a young age and so we are pleased that anyone aged four to 14 will be able to take part free of charge. …
