Marten de roon can only get better after completing his move to Boro, says Italian football expert Matteo Bonetti.

Matteo, who works for beln Sports, says the [euro]14m transfer is a win-win for both Boro and atalanta and believes the midfielder will make a success of his time in england.

he also expects de roon to become a regular in the holland set-up in the coming years, saying Italian football fans were surprised he didn't get a call-up last year after enjoying an excellent season in Serie a.

How have football fans in Italy reacted to the move? "They're not surprised, given atalanta's history.

"They purchased de roon last year for [euro]1.3m, so when an opportunity comes to ten-fold your investment, the club will always do so.

"They've always had a mentality to buy low, sell high.

"also, de roon has been linked to bigger clubs such as napoli since January, so it's not surprising to see him leave atalanta."

Is it a better deal for Boro or Atalanta? "Win-win for both. "atalanta continue their shrewd transfer strategy while Boro get one of the better young midfielders in Serie a who showed he can play at one of the highest levels and match his game accordingly."

Is he worth the money? "Given some of the outlandish figures we've seen in terms of Premier League signings, I'd say it's a fair deal for a player right in his prime who's had a meteoric rise in recent seasons.

"There's been plenty of interest for de roon in the summer from a host of big clubs in Italy and around europe, so Boro had to beat a few offers to secure his services."

Do you think he'll adapt to the English game? "he has all the qualities to do so.

"he has a slight frame so he might have to add some weight for the more physical demands of the Premier League.

"his talent and understanding of the game will translate in any league.

"Spending one year in Serie a helped him as well with a more tactical understanding of the game at the highest level, especially in such a crucial position in the midfield, where he's often the first man in front of the defence. …
