Hignett Gears Up for an Attacking Start for Pools

HARTLEPOOL fans should get an early taste of the exciting attacking football Craig Hignett wants to play next season when the League Two team visits Teesside on Saturday.

New-look Pools kick off their pre-season programme at Northern League second division club Billingham Town with manager Hignett keen to start laying some of the foundations for the upcoming campaign.

The former Boro mid-fielder and assistant wants Pools to put the emphasis on going forward, and the traditional summer fixture tends to produce plenty of goals.

Hignett is set to give run-outs to his eight off-season signings, including prolific former Grimsby Town frontman Padraig Amond, ex-Rochdale forward Lewis Alessandra and creative former Dover Athletic captain Nicky Deverdics.

Free agent former Boro defender Andre Bennett and gifted Guisborough Town centre back Andrew May could also get a chance to impress as part of their trials. …
