08:40 Metro station work hit by delays The multi-million pound refurbishment of one of the Metro's busiest stations has been hit by major delays, Nexus have announced.

Work on the PS6m scheme at Central Station was due to be completed by August, 11 months after work started, but now Nexus said 'complications' mean it will not be finished until November. This mean evening closures from 8pm on Sundays to Thursdays are set to continue with passengers forced to use Monument station during the work.

09:00 Schools fight to stop online abuse Headteachers have asked for help fighting online abuse and bullying of pupils, an MP has revealed. Roberta Blackman-Woods, Labour MP for the City of Durham, said heads had come to her warning children were victims of harassment and prejudice online.

The MP also highlighted concerns raised by senior police officers including Mike Barton, chief constable of Durham Constabulary, who have warned that the law is out of date, making it harder to fight the problem.

She was one of a number of MPs to warn of the growing threat of online abuse and harassment, in a House of Commons debate.

10:30 Chemical drum falling off lorry closes road Drivers face delays after a chemical drum fell off a lorry in Hexham. Emergency services were called to the Bridge End roundabout near the A69 at around 10.30am.

The A69 eastbound was closed between the A6079 and the A68 / B6529 Stagshaw Road (Stagshaw Roundabout).

A Northumbria Police spokesman said a chemical drum had fallen off the lorry but that nobody was injured.

Drivers heading between Haydon Bridge and Corbridge were warned that they would face delays. …
