WE have just purchased 300 acres near Miriam Vale with a magnificent western red cedar pole house almost completed on it, along with a runway! And I am making the transition from city girl to cow cocky. If my body can keep up I should be okay

Just last weekend saw me shovelling two tonne of gravel filling up a trench we had to dig because my partner Fred dug up the power cable to the house. All because we are trying to dog proof the yard to the house but no! Whoever put the cable in thought a better way to bury it was in a wave pattern - kind of like the silhouette of rolling hills. We didn't stand a chance. We were going to hit the cable no matter where we put the post hole for the gate.

Luckily Fred didn't get electrocuted. The safety switch at the pole saved him. Also the rubber on the oversize tractor we had to buy (but that is another story). I call it 'the beast': 100 horsepower of sheer grunt and way oversize for what we need in a tractor. …
