Aspin Happy with Heed Hat-Trick at Spartans; Second-Half Strikes See Tynesiders Kill off Blyth

GATESHEAD manager Neil Aspin expressed his satisfaction at his side's 3-0 pre-season win at Blyth Spartans.

Second-half goals from summer signings Reece Styche and Mitch Brundle - their first for the club - put the Heed on top before the hour.

Danny Johnson then made it three on 71 minutes, the striker and Styche both missing golden chances to stretch the lead.

There had been nothing in the game at the halfway stage, but a raft of changes on both sides worked in Gateshead's favour.

After a 6-2 win at Dunston UTS in their opening friendly, the Heed have not been short of firepower against lower-ranked opposition.

Aspin said: "It was a difficult game.

There wasn't much in it in the first half, it was a bit of a stalemate with not much goalmouth action.

"But second half we had a lot more impetus going forward, played at a better tempo and should have scored more than the three goals.

"We gave two poor goals away at Dunston, which wasn't a great start when you are trying to keep clean sheets. …
