A HUGE fire in a coffee roastery near Clapham Junction station has caused further problems on the Southern rail network.

The blaze started at about 9pm yesterday in Caffe Nero's coffee factory on a Battersea industrial estate close to the station. Eight fire engines and up to 100 firefighters tackled the flames.

Southern train services were among those severely delayed before the network was restored early this morning. Battersea resident Charlie Edwards, 22, said: "It was crazy, I heard the helicopter and ran out to see huge flames and smoke next to moving trains."

Eleanor Grundy added: "Flames were leaping up high; there was smoke everywhere and a very acrid smell." Train passengers posted photos and videos of the fire online as they passed by. London Fire Brigade said: "The fire affected an industrial unit and smoke could be seen from miles around."

The fire broke out on the Parkfield Industrial Estate near Queenstown Road, the last stop on the line to Victoria. …
