THERE'S been one topic of conversation this week in the office, and pretty much all over the world.


Yes, I know, I'm sick of hearing about it all too but let's put this latest 'craze' into perspective.

For those of you living under a rock, the gaming app Pokemon Go was released less than a month ago and has people all over the world wandering around staring at their phones (like that's a new thing), in the hope of catching a Pokemon thingy which can be found randomly spread at millions of locations across the globe.

The number of users has already overtaken Twitter and Tinder, that's how popular it is.

Note: there's a gag there about 'Tinder' and 'catching something' but I'm not going to go there.

Those who are into Pokemon Go say that it is a great reason to get out of the house as they revisit something that was special to them in the 1990s and 2000s.

Across the globe people are holding 'Poke-Parties', which despite sounding like a cheap 70's porn film, is where Pokemon fans gather at locations and share the search for these cyber-pets together.

A photo doing the rounds on social media from South Bank on Saturday night was described by the author as 'everyone having a great time at the Poke Party'.

Well if your idea of fun is sitting outside in the cold staring at your phone while surrounded by a hundred other people, then yup, sounds like a great night out.

Maybe I'm being too harsh here. One complaint we have about kids today is that they don't get up from their screens and never get enough exercise and fresh air. So here we have a video game that is forcing them to go out exploring and without knowing it, walking kilometres at a time.

Surely that has to be a good thing right?
