8 Great Activities for This Weekend

Article excerpt

OUT and about this weekend on Teesside? There's lots going on whether you've got the kids in tow or feel like a night out.

Here are a few ideas for things to do.

1 FOODIES are in for a treat when Wynyard Hall Farmer's Market gets under way on Sunday.

Food culture has never been more popular and farmers' markets are at the heart of the growing trend. This one is organised by Northern Dales Farmers' Market and features up to 30 stalls packed with locally produced food. The market takes place in the grounds of the hall from 9am to 2pm. More in the story below.

2 KICK-OFF the summer holidays in style at Saltholme's Woolly Weekend tomorrow and Sunday.

The reserve, on the banks of the Tees, is inviting visitors to go and watch the annual spectacle of sheep shearing. You can also make your own lamb using Saltholme's finest wool, test your winning streak at the events field with family games, or dare to take the Saltholme family challenge around the lake. Visitors can put their spinning skills to the test and get hands on with Durham Spinners and Weavers, while learning more about how wool can be used once it has been removed from the sheep.

3 MAGICAL childhood memories are guaranteed with the latest exhibition at Middlesbrough's Dorman Museum. Once Upon a Time runs until Sat urday, September 4 and visitors to it can see a magical exhibition of fairy tales and nursery rhymes guaranteed to evoke bedtime stories of years gone by.

Little seen and unusual objects from the museum's collections will be used to bring the tales to life. Admission is PS2.50 for adults, PS1 for children aged three and over including an activity pack, family tickets PS5.

4 SALTBURN'S Spa Hotel has a rich musical history which is all set to continue this weekend when Live By The Sea brings its next act to The Spa Hotel.

Ren Harvieu and Romeo Stodart (from the Magic Numbers) take to the venue's stage tonight - later in the year the likes of Neville Staple and China Crisis will also perform.

Tickets for Friday night's gig are PS12.

TAKE a family trip to the cinema. Big releases set to hit our 5 screens this weekend include Ice Age: Collision Course - sabretoothed squirrel Scrat accidentally sends a giant meteor hurtling towards Earth in the computer-animated adventure - and spooks and spirits are unleased on New York in the remake of the supernatural comedy Ghostbusters. …
