Article excerpt

A body found late Tuesday morning in the woods off the 6100 block of Spring Hammock Road has been identified as 37-year-old Arnett Irving Rollins, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Rollins' remains were found about 30 miles from where he had lived on South Autrey Avenue on the city's Westside.

A resident was walking shortly before 11:30 a.m. in the rural Northside community when he spotted a shoe in the road, Sgt. Michael Paul said. The resident went looking for the other one and found Rollins' body in the nearby woods along with the matching shoe. Police said the body appeared to have been there about a day.

Traffic homicide investigators were called to the scene to determine if the man was hit by a vehicle, then homicide detectives took over after the death was determined to be a homicide, police said.
