Saints Go Down in Twilight Smashing

THERE was a halo over Boyne Oval on Saturday night when BITS Saints players clashed with Yeppoon Swans for the first Capricornia AFL game under lights on that field.

But it was the Swans who went away celebrating after the slickest and fittest team came out fired up against an inconsistent Saints team.

The first quarter was all one-way traffic, with the Swans kicking truly and leading 41-1 at the break.

Saints coach Damien Lyon gave his boys a spray at quarter time and midfielder Ben Dempsey said it was needed.

"It was the first one all season and it fired us up a bit," he said.

Saints started the second quarter with a lot more passion as a result and, when Dempsey won a free kick for a strong tackle in the middle of the field, the rest of the boys rallied. …
