THERE is a sense of optimism surrounding the future of the Ipswich Super Sprint with the Supercars organisation keen to continue the event and secure a long-term deal

An agreement has been struck between the State Government, Supercars and Tourism Events Queensland (TEQ) to secure the futures of the Townsville 400 and Gold Coast 600 until the end of 2019.

A renewal for the Ipswich event is in the works with Ipswich City Council keen to get moving on a $52 million stage one redvelopment of Queensland Raceway and environs.

"We're currently having discussions about the future of the Ipswich event and we'd like to look at a long term deal," a Supercars spokesman told the QT.

"We've indicated that we'd like to continue at Ipswich and we also have to take into account the proposed redevelopment of the circuit and the work that is being done by the council at the moment.

"We announced a month ago with TEQ the renewal of the Townsville and Gold Coast events. …
