SCHOOL'S out for summer, so what better way to spend some quality time with the kids than on a beach? Building sandcastles, having a paddle or even treating yourselves to a picnic, there is so much you can do on a stretch of sand.

But if you are unsure where to go, here is some inspiration.

We have listed some of the best family friendly beaches within an hour of Teesside.

SALTBURN We couldn't do a "best beaches" list without mentioning this beauty.

Saltburn beach, which is also a popular surf spot, is a sand and shingle beach backed by a promenade.

There is also the historic cliff lift and pier, which extends 200 metres from the shoreline, as well as an array of facilities such as shops, pubs and of course the popular Seaview fish and chip shop!

REDCAR This seaside town has a choice of beach spots which are popular with families and surfers.

The stretch of beach near Redcar Lifeboat Station even gained a Seaside Award for its cleanliness and good water quality. And of course, there are plenty of places to grab beach supplies or even a lemon-top close by!

MARSKE SANDS A sandy beach lies between Redcar and Saltburn. It is a quieter part of the Redcar and Cleveland coast, where boats still group on the slipway.

SEATON CAREW Seaton Carew was once again recognised as one of the best after being granted a Seaside Award earlier this year.

The beach is cleaned every day, and is patrolled by lifeguards on weekends, bank holidays and school holidays to ensure it is safe for visitors.

It is also the only regularly breeding colony of common seals on the North-east coast of England can often be seen basking on the mudflats of Greatham Creek during the summer.

STAITHES Sheltered behind one of the largest fishing ports on the Dinosaur Coast, the beach at Staithes is small but popular with families. …
