JACKSONVILLE MAN WINS $500,000 SCRATCH-OFF

The Florida Lottery's $500,000 Monopoly Florida Edition scratch-off game produced a top prize winner from Jacksonville this week.

Edward Moore, 54, of Jacksonville, bought the $5 ticket from the 9615 Heckscher Drive Kangaroo Express, according to the Lottery.

"I'm thinking about putting this money toward the purchase of a house, a motorhome would be nice, but most definitely I'll be taking my family on a 21-day cruise vacation," Moore told the Lottery about his plans for some of his big winnings.

FEDERAL MONEY TO BE USED FOR SIDEWALKS

A $7.2 million Federal Transit Administration reallocation to the Jacksonville Transportation Authority will be used to improve sidewalks and handicapped-accessible ramps within a half-mile of the First Coast Flyer's North Corridor stations.

The federal fund transfer came as a result of JTA's efficient project management of the flyer's North Corridor Bus Rapid Transit program, according to authority officials. The funds will also be used to build pedestrian access to the Armsdale Park-n-Ride facility, set to open in October at 3191 Armsdale Road in an area with one of the JTA's highest riderships due to its high elderly population. Bus and pedestrian safety will be improved by redesigning Armsdale Road with a curb and gutter and added lane widths and sidewalks at the Park-n-Ride.

The First Coast Flyer is made up of four planned corridors covering 57 miles of roadway, all converging at downtown's bus infrastructure.
