SURFING: It was a whitewash at Point Lookout on Sunday, when Sunshine Coasters won every division of the Queensland School Sport State Surfing Championship.

In a remarkable weekend, they snared bragging rights and silverware in all seven sections on North Stradbroke Island.

State junior squad coach and event commentator Brad Lee believes the region's youngsters are better board riders because they've grown up on challenging home breaks.

"There aren't as many good waves on the Sunshine Coast, compared to the Gold Coast, so the kids have to work harder and develop their own speed and power rather than getting it already delivered to them at point breaks all the time," he said.

He also said they were well coached and many Sunshine Coast schools were highly supportive of the sport.

Noah Stocker, of Coolum High, won the under-19 boys section.

"He's a kid who has developed really strongly during the last few months and is one to watch out for in the future," Lee said. …
