BUSINESS owners like Hannah Cordie and Karl Malmros will have to fork over a little less to the Fraser Coast Regional Council to display signs and set up chairs out the front of their shops.

The council has removed its annual renewal fees for footpath dining and signs, meaning once the appropriate licences have been bought, businesses no longer have to pay to display.

Fraser Coast councillor for youth and city precinct development Daniel Sanderson said the decision was one of the many fee considerations in this year's budget.

"Annual renewal fees have been previously based on a number of conditions including area size and number of chairs," he said.

"Businesses will no longer need to financially cover this annual licence renewal fee, which is potentially a huge saving."

Maryborough business co-owner Hannah Cordie and her husband bought The Light Christian Bookshop in April and introduced a cafe which has proven popular with new and existing customers. …
