Roaming Dogs Kill Woman's Pet Sheep

AFTER a lengthy house bound stint because of a broken leg, Petra Lovett was just starting to venture outside to enjoy the company of her two pet sheep.

Her recovery took a backward step this week, however, when two roaming dogs snuck onto her property and viciously mauled her livestock.

The attack left her Persian sheep, Yossi, with horrific injuries that turned out to be fatal, while her Damara sheep, Robbie, has gone missing and she is unsure if he will ever return.

A heartbroken Ms Lovett said her sheep were her best friends.

"I don't have any children so my animals are my babies," she said.

"This is a huge step back in my recovery. On Sunday I actually did get out of the house for the first time since January to give them a pat."

It was about 10am on Tuesday morning when Ms Lovett noticed one of the domestic staffy-crosses chasing one of her chickens around the yard.

Unable to move without her walking frame, she called out to her friend, Ian Dedman, who ran down and corralled the dogs into a corner. …
