A PROGRAM that encourages primary school children to snack on fruit and vegetables during class time was launched at Coffs Harbour Public School.

The Crunch & Sip program launch coincided with NSW Education Week.

Parents had the opportunity to visit children in their classrooms in the morning before the school community gathered to learn about the importance of fruit and vegetables before and then shared a delicious, nutritious morning tea of fresh fruit, vegetables and water.

Benny Banana made an appearance and entertained the children, who along with their teachers, dressed up as their favourite fruit or vegetable for the occasion.

Crunch & Sip gives students the opportunity to snack on fresh fruit or vegetables during class time. They are also encouraged to keep a bottle of water in their classrooms to drink throughout the day.

Mid North Coast Local Health District health promotion officer Nicki Kerr said programs such as Crunch & Sip were an important way to encourage healthy habits. …
