Grafton Swimmers Snatch Win at Lismore

SWIM CLUB: A very tired but smugly satisfied group of swimmers returned home from the Lismore Mid Winter Swim on Sunday.

Anne Simkus, Debbie Smith and Toni Ensbey progressed to the semi-finals of the 25m freestyle with Anne then qualifying for the final and scoring third place. Toni was the only Grafton swimmer to make the final of the 50m and she also took third place.

When the 4 x 25m medley relay was due to be swum, Grafton very hurriedly formed a team with Geoff Simkus, Grafton's only male swimmer, taking on the role of Madam Butterfly. No one could remember the last time that Grafton had entered a team in a medley relay so it came as a really pleasant surprise when they snatched the win, swimming only 0.13 off their nominated time. Other members of the team were Debbie Smith, Jenny Vickery and Anne Simkus.

In the six person relay made up of Toni, Debbie, Jenny, Anne, Geoff and Jill Enks, Grafton came home in fourth place. …
