Record Day on THETYNE as Cruise Ships Call In

THE Port of Tyne has been bustling with thousands of tourists as a record five passenger ships arrived or left in one day.

The port experienced its busiest day ever at its International Passenger Terminal in North Shields yesterdayas five ships came or went, including the biggest cruise ship ever to visit the port.

Holland America Line's Koningsdam measures a massive 297.2m long and weighing 99,500 tons. Launched in April this year, Koningsdam is one of the world's newest cruise ships and brings almost 4,000 passengers and crew to the region.

Every available passenger berth was used at the port as the passenger ships arrived throughout the day.

German-operated Aida Vita arrived on Monday morning and departed early yesterday just as the Regent Seven Seas Voyager came into port.

The 203m long Aida Vita caught the eye of passers-by on Monday with its signature decoration of red lips, big yellow eyes and blue eyeshadow streaming out to the sides of the boat. …
