Saving Time and Money; Petition to Set Just Three Time Zones

IT'S a new take on an age old debate and Graeme Brittenden believes it will save Queensland $4.35 billion a year.

Mr Brittenden, who comes from the Sunshine Coast, is travelling around Queensland to promote his petition to have just three time zones on the eastern side of Australia.

"We want to do what South Australia and Central Australia did in 1898; they moved their clocks forward half an hour," Mr Brittenden said during his Mackay visit. "They've had two or three referenda since then and decided, no they don't want to change it."

Mr Brittenden's proposal is that whether it's summer or winter, Australia would only ever have three time zones at any given time.

"The Chamber of Commerce put out a report in 2011. It said when the clocks are out of sync it costs the Queensland economy $4.5 billion per year," he said. "My background is commerce and I thought there must be way to fix it. …
