X Factor winner James Arthur was taken to hospital after being attacked while on a night out at a popular seaside town pub.

Witnesses told The Gazette the 28-year-old singer was attacked at the Plimsoll Line on Redcar High Street on Saturday night.

One source said the Teesside musician had been "glassed" inside the pub and police have confirmed the victim of the assault had been taken to hospital for treatment.

Arthur alluded to the attack on his Twitter feed using emoticons of a bewildered face and a beer glass along with the words, "Good night in Redcar tonight".

It is not known how badly hurt the Impossible singer was but he later responded to a question about his condition by tweeting: "I'm fine thank you. No worries, we move on #BACKFROMTHEEDGE."

A spokesman for the 2012 X Factor winner, said he had "nothing further to add" as the incident "is now a police matter".

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: "We received a report of an assault at the Plimsoll Line on Redcar High Street at around 10. …
