Article excerpt

A WOMAN accused of a PS30,000 holiday scam appeared in court via video-link from Malaga.

Zoe Barrass appeared before Sunderland Magistrates' Court charged with 12 counts of fraud by misrepresentation.

The 28-year-old is accused of running a travel agent, Hello Sunshine, on Facebook, defrauding people out of cash.

Barrass is charged with taking fake bookings for holidays and flights to Spain, Thailand, Tunisia and Brazil intending to gain money for herself, the court heard.

Andrew White on behalf of the CPS said: "The prosecution say this matter is clearly not suitable to dealt with at this court and should be sent to Newcastle Crown Court.

"It is alleged that she ran a travel agent, known at Hello Sunshine on Facebook, and was taking deposits for holidays and flights but there were no bookings made."

Mr White added the matter should be dealt with at crown court as the 12 charges total PS29,588 of fraud.

Barrass did not give an indication of how she will plead on the matters and the case was sent to Newcastle Crown Court. …
