Boxers Fighting for Gold; Four Fighters off to Box in Brisbane

BOXING: After recent success in Queensland tournaments, Bundaberg boxers are ready for the national stage.

Four boxers from the Attila PCYC Boxing Academy will compete today in the Golden Gloves, one of the largest events for the sport in the country.

Competing for the first time at the event James Harney (40kg), Hunter Somerville-Kimlin (70kg), Josh Shaxson (70kg), and Andrew Clawson (80kg) will all be involved as they try to bout for gold over the next four days.

Proud to see all four compete on the big arena coach Attila Kovacs said they had been training hard for it.

"It's an honour for them to go to the Golden Gloves," he said.

"They are all prepared and want to do it and I've got a good feeling they will all do well."

In preparation for the event Hunter said the team had focused on all areas including how they punch.

"We've been working on fitness (and doing more sprints)," he said. …
