Allora to Pursue a Statue of Star Geitz

NETBALL: There will be two statues in Queensland of Allora's favourite daughter Laura Geitz if Perry Cronin has his way.

The Allora Regional Sports Museum president made some inquiries about the possibility a bronze statue of Queensland and Australia captain Geitz the same as the one planned for the Brisbane Entertainment Centre at Boondall could be erected outside the museum in Herbert St, Allora.

"I have spoken to the CEO at the entertainment centre as well as state and federal members of parliament and representatives of the Southern Downs Regional Council," he said.

"I can think of a page full of positives and only one negative, money. I believe there could be some government funding to go towards the cost.

"It would be a tourist attraction at Allora. I haven't spoken to too many people but those I have spoken to said go for it. It could be incorporated into the Allora streetscape planning."

Cronin believes it would be more economical to produce two at once. …
