A Vital Week for Legacy; Fundraising Drive Only One for Year

FOR ABOUT 380 widows of Australian servicemen in the Clarence Valley, one of the most important weeks in the year has just began.

Legacy Week, the annual fundraising and awareness drive of the Legacy organisation, began yesterday with a small service in Memorial Park, Grafton.

Grafton Legacy's Ron Shoebridge said Legacy Week was the only fundraising drive the organisation held during the year.

Legacy using the funds it raises during the week to look after the widows of Australian servicemen.

Mr Shoebridge said in the Clarence Valley there were more than 38,0 including 11 widows of servicemen from Vietnam and 11 of men who served in Malaya.

"We have two widows of First World War men, including one who's just moved into a home at the age of 102," he said.

"The rest are widows from World War Two soldiers."

Mr Shoebridge said he had no fears about the success of the Legacy Week fundraising drives in the Clarence Valley.

"The people in this region are extraordinarily generous," he said. …
