Accused Tortured Woman for Days, Court Told

A WOMAN charged for raping, assaulting and torturing a woman over a five day period last year acted after the victim was accused of stealing methamphetamine, Ipswich District Court heard yesterday.

Sheridan Louise McGguire, 39, wascharged after the victim allegedly escaped McGuire's and a co-accused's Woodend home on May 4 last year, telling police she spent the days prior being tortured, tied up, raped and beaten.

McGuire pleaded not guilty to eight charges including rape, torture, deprivation of liberty, robbery in company, threatening violence and three counts of assault in day one of a trial yesterday.

Crown prosecutor Clare Kelly told the court the alleged offending began after the woman was accused of taking methamphetamine from within the home.

Ms Kelly said the victim was threatened to have her fingers cut off with a machete if she answered questions incorrectly, had her ponytail cut off and was raped during the ordeal.

She said one of the charges related to the woman being chained to a tree by the Bremer River. …
