Reunion Bash Set to Be Huge; Celebrate the Rich History of Back Plains

IT WILL be a massive day of celebrations on Saturday when Back Plains residents past and present roll up for a huge reunion event.

Former Back Plains resident Ian Mason said he started doing a little research into his family's history with the town when he realised how many fascinating and rich tales came out of the area.

His great-great grandfather, Frederick Lack, was one of the area's original settlers, arriving in January of 1873.

Mr Mason set about compiling what he could find into a book detailing the region's history after a suggestion from a fellow local history enthusiast.

The work was some five years in the making and turned up some amazing stories of hardship, survival and small-town life, like the day a young lady from one of the prominent families in the district was bitten by a snake on the finger. …
