AMAZON has expanded its Prime Now one-hour service to more postcodes as it steadily increases its push into ultra-fast delivery.

The retail giant's fastest delivery service is now available to more than 30% of the UK population across selected postcodes in Newcastle, London, Surrey, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Portsmouth, South Yorkshire and Glasgow, while two-hour delivery windows are available in Edgware, Enfield and Watford.

Members pay PS6.99 for delivery within one hour on 15,000 items, ranging from milk to games consoles, or get free delivery for a choice of two-hour, same-day delivery slots between 8am and midnight, seven days a week.

Amazon began selling chilled and frozen items through Prime Now in certain areas last September before launching Amazon Pantry in November, which delivers everyday household products to Prime members nationwide for PS2.99 per box. In June it announced the launch of Amazon Fresh food deliveries in the UK to Prime members in London in its latest push into the grocery market.

Jason Weston, director of Amazon's Prime Now service in the UK, said: "Prime Now is our fastest delivery option ever and we are delighted to bring it to new areas like north London, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex.

"Whether it's essentials like fresh milk, nappies or even a last-minute gift, customers love the convenience of delivery straight to their door in less than 60 minutes from 8am until midnight."

Amazon Prime membership grew by 51% last year, including 47% in the US. Amazon did not break down numbers locally, but said there were "millions" of members in the UK.

Meanwhile, Amazon Dash, WiFiconnected buttons that reorder household products with a single press, has also been launched in the UK. …
